A Real Week in the Life of a PMU Artist

If you’ve ever thought about training in permanent makeup, you’ve probably wondered what the day-to-day actually looks like.
And I mean really looks like.
Not the polished Instagram version. Not the “booked out 24/7” version. Not the hustle culture version where success only counts if you’re working yourself into the ground.
I wanted to share a real week in the life of a PMU artist, because if you’re considering this career, you deserve to see what it can genuinely look like.
For me, this week was a reminder of exactly why I do what I do.
One of the most emotional moments came when I treated a lovely young girl who suffers with alopecia. When I handed her the mirror, she was in tears. And honestly, I had to swallow the lump in my throat too.
That moment is hard to put into words.
Because this job is never just about brows.
It’s about giving someone a piece of themselves back. It’s about helping someone feel more confident when they look in the mirror. It’s about making everyday life feel easier. For some clients, having brows they wake up with each morning is about so much more than appearance — it’s about identity, comfort, and self-worth.
That side of this industry will never stop meaning something to me.
But there’s another side to being a PMU artist too, and that’s the lifestyle it can create.
One of the biggest reasons I love this career is because it can offer so much flexibility. This week included treatments, top-up appointments, admin, and all the usual behind-the-scenes bits that come with running a business — but it also included school runs, gym time, home life, and space to actually be present.
That’s the part I think more women need to hear.
You do not have to build a business that takes over your whole life in order to be successful.
Being a PMU artist is not just about doing treatments all day every day. It’s about building something that works for you. A career that can fit around your family, your routine, your goals, and the kind of life you actually want to live.
This week was a mix of brows, lips, maintenance appointments, a catch-up admin day, and one really emotional client moment that reminded me why this work matters so much.
And that, to me, is the reality of this career.
It’s artistry, yes. But it’s also connection. It’s confidence-building. It’s flexibility. It’s freedom. It’s creating a business that supports your life rather than controls it.
I’m not sharing this because I want to make it sound easy or perfect.
I’m sharing it because so many women sit there thinking:
Could I really do this?
Is it too late for me?
Could I build something that fits around my life?
And the answer is yes — you absolutely could.
You do not need to have everything figured out before you begin. You do not need to feel fearless. You do not need to be the most confident person in the room.
You just need to be willing to start.
Being a PMU artist can be creative, emotional, rewarding, and genuinely life-changing — not only for your clients, but for you too.
If you’re craving a career with more freedom, more purpose, and more flexibility, this industry can open so many doors.
And if you’re curious about what PMU training could look like for you, even if you’re starting from scratch, that’s exactly what I’d love to help you with.
